Brief Description: A member of the hound group, it is similar in appearance to the foxhound, but smaller with shorter legs and longer, softer ears. Beagles are scent hounds, developed primarily for tracking hare, rabbit, deer, and other small game.

Dobermann DCM Genetic Testing: the Good, the Bad, the Newly Discovered
Wisdom Panel™ is excited to announce the inclusion of groundbreaking testing exclusively for Dobermann Pinscher breeders to screen for Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) risk. As part of an international collaboration between research groups, Wisdom participated in the largest study of Dobermann DCM to date, uncovering two new genetic risk factors. Please join us for a panel discussion with key researchers and clinical experts as they break down these discoveries and talk about practical ways Dobermann breeders can apply them in their breeding programmes.

IPFD Contributing Partner The Norwegian Kennel Club (Norsk Kennel Klub) is speaking out on the recent Norwegian Supreme Court decisions on breeding the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and English Bulldogs. Harmonization of Genetic Testing for Dogs (HGTD)

HGTD has updated new tests available for the Dobermann (as referenced in the Wisdom Panel™ announcement in the Partners in Action section earlier in this issue). The new updates include additional research information and a new genetic risk factor test for Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) risk. DCM is a condition that has long been important to Dobermann breeders who prioritize breeding for health.
Collaborations between Dobermann breeders, veterinary specialists, and genetic researchers have greatly improved the development of risk-factor genetic tests to help breeders and owners. This new research means that there are now genetic risk tests for DCM in the Dobermann for both North American and non-North American populations. Currently, you can find links to understanding test results, and the research via HGTD. Additional information for usage of the test, and understanding the results will be rolled out at the end of 2023, and into 2024.
