Updated research February 2018 (published by the NSDTRC) includes dogs from North America and Europe.

WSAVA Animal Welfare Guidelines for companion animal practitioners and veterinary teams (2018)

"These WSAVA Guidelines focus on the interactions that occur in the veterinary clinic, but this model is a reminder that we need to always keep in mind the bigger picture of how animals interact with people and the wider community and society. Furthermore, as discussed above the human-animal bond is an integral part of this entire system and should not be underestimated."

Longevity and Mortality in Kennel Club Registered Dog Breeds in the UK in 2014

This research paper used mortality data to describe the life spans and causes of death for more than 5600+ pedigreed dogs, across many breeds, registered with the UK Kennel Club. Our very own HGTD Project Manager, Aimee Llewellyn-Zaidi, is a co-author of the paper, published in Canine Genetics and Epidemiology.

September 2018 - Approaches to Breed-Specific Extremes

Developments from the Swedish KC and Breed Clubs regarding testing and management of health and welfare issues in brachy breeds as well as involvement of the veterinary sector, this article points to other recently added DogWellNet.com content on avoidance of extremes in other breeds - e.g. Dachshunds (“Not long and not low” – please read the Breed Standard) and Rottweilers (QUESTIONABLE PHENOTYPIC TRAITS IN THE ROTTWEILER, by Prof. Dr. Peter Friedrich).

Journal Nature Publishes IPFD Submission

The International science journal Nature has published our response to a recent article, Pet genomics medicine runs wild. The IPFD piece was submitted by Gregoire Leroy, AgroParisTech; Brenda N. Bonnett, IPFD CEO; & Katariina Mäki, Finnish Kennel Club.

HGTD Quality Testing Database Expanded

We have recently expanded the list of Genetic Testing Providers (GTPs) in our HGTD Quality Testing Database to include both those participating in HGTD and non-participating providers.

 


"Participating" genetic test providers have voluntarily contributed data on their business or research lab, as well as data on tests they offer. "Non-participating" genetic test providers are those we believe to be active but who do not currently participate in the HGTD database.

We welcome additional participant GTPs, more collaborators from any stakeholders concerned with dog health and welfare, the advice of experts, the participation of breed clubs and other consumer groups. We stand ready to provide more information to ongoing discussions.
