July 2022 - German Pedigree Dog Clubs create initiative
This initiative seeks to educate the public about the actual methods of kennel clubs and uses current numbers and research findings as a framework to not only inform, but also allow for a fact-based exchange with authorities and government agencies.
"On January 1, 2022, an amendment to the Animal Welfare Dog Ordinance came into force, which bans so-called torture breeds from being shown. While the basic idea of promoting animal welfare through binding requirements can actually only be welcomed, the interpretation of the veterinary authorities commissioned with the implementation of the regulation also affects pedigree dog breeding clubs, which have already committed themselves to combating hereditary defects and dispositions. We - as members of the Club for British Herding Dogs e.V. and founders of the initiative "Controlled Purebred Dog Breeding is Not Torture Breeding" - are one of them."
