NKK - Breed specific breeding strategy (English)

The NKK Breeding Strategy template document (in English) outlines categories of content utilized by breed clubs when creating breed specific breeding strategy documents (RAS) for their breed.

See the RAS English Template as a PDF file in DWN's Downloads

The MSWord version as an attachment is available below.

DogWellNet's content partner from the NKK,  Kim Bellamy, writes...

"The clubs have created breed specific breeding strategies for their breed...

A list of all the strategies is available here (in Norwegian only):" (link updated 2-2022)

norsk kc banner.JPGThe NKK has shared with us the English version of the instruction for the breeding strategies (see below) , so our readers could see the sort of information clubs are required to include in a given breed's RAS document.

As a matter of interest, Kim's comments on the NKK's support of clubs are helpful in explaining how the NKK and breed clubs work together on gathering documentation and data contained in the breeding strategy documents. "The Norwegian Kennel Club provides information on hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eye examinations, number of litters/puppies and imports. In addition, inbreeding coefficients are available for each litter (but not average for the breed – this they must calculate themselves). Other health results (patellas, DNA-test etc.) are available for each dog, but not as a statistic. We are working on improving our IT-systems so more information will be easily available."

Breeding strategies for breeds documents cover topics that include but are not limited to:

    • Breed History (brief)
    • Breed Health (tests, health concerns for the breed, reproductive concerns, and other specific health related content and data...)
    • Breed Population (data on population size, litter size, inbreeding, number of males and females used for breeding, import/export information...)
    • Breeding guidelines and requirements
    • Temperament and character evaluations

The prioritization of goals and objectives for a breed's management are articulated in the breeding strategy RAS documents.pawprint15x15transparent.png
