• IPFD Collaborating Partner, The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), has recently published the latest edition of Dog Breeds: What You Need to Know, a regular feature in their online news section (and in the WSAVA Bulletin) that highlights IPFD resources on a particular breed with a focus on breed-specific diseases.

IPFD Virtual Meetings:
Workshop 3 - Theme: Parentage Profiling for Kennel Clubs

 

 

 

 

 

Attention Kennel Clubs: Registration is now open for the free March 15th IPFD Webinar on Parentage Profiling for Kennel Clubs.

Our expert panelists from the International Society for Animal Genetics, VHL Genetics, The Kennel Club (UK), and Raad van Beheer (Dutch Kennel Club) – along with representatives from IPFD Partner Kennel Clubs and other national kennel clubs from around the world – will be discussing how genetic parentage profiling can support pedigree registration and dog health. This is a very exciting opportunity for kennel club representatives to learn what is happening globally.

Recording accurate pedigree information is a key purpose of most kennel clubs in their role as registration bodies. This has historically relied on self-reporting from breeders and is therefore vulnerable to mistakes. The usage of parentage profiling has risen across kennel clubs, most often as part of parentage dispute management. Costs to parentage profiling and genetic testing more generally are becoming more affordable, at the same time there are increasing pressures to ensure accurate and robust pedigree information. Parentage profiling as part of registration and/or health schemes is one of the most valuable tools to kennel clubs, and by sharing experiences and expertise, more kennel clubs and their breeder/owner clients can benefit.

The webinar begins at 8:00 a.m. (PDT) and will be 2 hours in length.
