Agria Animal Insurance

 

 

The Agria Djurförsäkring (Agria Animal Insurance) Agria Dog Breed Profiles provide comprehensive statistics on health and disease in dogs, based on 200,000 Swedish dogs each year between 1995 and 2002. Data is organized by year, by age, by gender, survival statistics and more for each breed - and for all breeds combined. American Kennel Club

 

The American Kennel Club offers an extensive database of all American Kennel Club dog breeds. (The AKC was an Initiating Partner of the IPFD (2015-2017), and is now a proud sponsor of IPFD's Harmonization of Genetic Testing for Dogs Initiative.)

 

 

You can select a letter of the alphabet to view all AKC-recognized breeds beginning with that letter. Click on a breed to view an extensive collection of breed resources, which include:

Canadian Kennel Club

 

 

The Canadian Kennel Club offers a very easy-to use database of dog breeds and a tool for locating purebred puppies from CKC members.

 

 

 

Choosing a Breed

You can search breeds categorized by Breed Group (Herding Dogs, Hounds, Terriers, etc.) or All Dogs. Each category offers a preview of each breed with the breed name, a photo, and brief description.

Each breed listing includes detailed information under the following headings:

• Origin
• Temperament
• Activity Level
•  Height/Weight
• Coat
• Colour
• Grooming
• Breed Standard

 

 

 

The CKC’s Puppy List features a searchable database that includes purebred puppies from CKC Member Breeders. The search results can be filtered in tabs with  by criteria including:

• Closest
• By Postal Code
• By Province

Finnish Kennel Club

 

 

Suomen Kennelliitto (Finnish Kennel Club, in English) has an extensive collection of breed-specific information in its Dog Breeds Database, KoiraNet.

 

 

 

 

You can select a breed from the database in two ways:

1. Use the drop-down menus to select FCI Group and Breed

2. Type the breed name into the Quick Search box; there are options for “Advanced Search” and “Search Finnish Dogs Only” to help refine your search.

 

 

Once you select a breed, information is presented in the two sections outlined below.

 

In the blue box, you can click on breed-specific links to the following:

• Latest: Litters, Trials, Results, Shows, Health, Champions, Imports
• Statistics: Result Statistics, Show Statistics, Health Statistics, Breeding Statistics

German Kennel Club

 

VDH - Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen (German Kennel Club in English) – offers an excellent collection of breed profiles.

 

 

VDH’s “Rasselexikon” (“Breedopedia” in English) provides detailed descriptions and other useful resources for 343 dog breeds.

The information is displayed in German by default, but your browser (Google Chrome or Internet Explorer) should be able to translate the text to English by right-clicking on the page and selecting the translation option from the menu.

 

 Firefox users can find a handy translation add-on available here.

 

 

The Breedopedia is easy to navigate. You can browse by page, type in a breed name, search by the first letter of the breed name (in German), or use a drop-down menu on the page for each letter to quickly locate the desired breed (instead of scrolling down the page or through multiple pages of results). 

When you select a breed, you find several tabs at the top of the profile – or buttons to the right (depending on the page you’re on) – including:

• Country of Origin; Standard Number; Height; Weight; Use; FCI Group, etc.

Irish Kennel Club

The Irish Kennel Club's Breeds section area features a large collection of detailed profiles for dog breeds recognized by the IKC.

 

 

 

 

The main Breeds page allows you to select breeds by name from an alphabetical list; you can also select a letter to narrow your search to breeds beginning with that letter. There is also a link to a searchable database of Irish breed clubs on the page.

 

 

 

Each breed profile features an image of the breed and information organized under the following headings:

The Kennel Club

The Kennel Club’s Breeds A-Z  is a comprehensive resource for finding out about individual breeds. Also see Breed-specific health testing requirements for all breeds. 

 

On the main Breeds A-Z page, you can use the search box to locate information on a specific breed, or you can select the breed in the Full Breed List section further down the page.

 

 

 

Once you select a breed, you are taken to a Description page that has a general description of the breed, Breed Watch information, the breed standard... size, exercise requirements, grooming requirements, coat, ideal environment and more. 

 

The Display:

• Drop down sections provide Health Information; Breeding Restrictions; Assured Breeders; Breed Standard; Accepted Registration Colours; Pictures; and Breed Watch (points of concern identified for special attention by judges).

The Swedish Kennel Club's Breeds section features profiles of all breeds found in Sweden and registered in the Swedish Kennel Club.

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA)

 

 

The OFA was an Initiating Partner of the IPFD, and is now a proud sponsor of IPFD's Harmonization of Genetic Testing for Dogs Initiative.





OFA's mission is to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease. The OFA is guided by specific objectives: to collate and disseminate information concerning orthopedic and genetic diseases of animals; to advise, encourage and establish control programs to lower the incidence of orthopedic and genetic diseases; to encourage and finance research in orthopedic and genetic disease in animals; to receive funds and make grants to carry out these objectives.

The health data and disease informational articles available on OFA's website may be utilized by cynological organizations and kennel clubs to enhance understanding of purebred breed's health statuses over time thereby allowing for effective development, design and execution of educational programs which help define best practices for keeping and breeding dogs. Further OFA's website serves as a research aid to the public and dog breeders who are concerned with making well informed purchase and breeding decisions.

Services provided, which were initially  focused on conducting orthopedic evaluations (Hips), have grown to include coverage of Non-DNA and DNA tests for other diseases and conditions.

Screening: If you would like to learn which genetic diseases and/or conditions a breed should be screened for.

Please note, "all dogs that have had an OFA screening test with normal results since 1974 are in the searchable online database. Dogs with abnormal results are in the searchable online database if the owner authorized disclosure. If a dog is not listed in the database, it is fair to assume that the dog has not been screened for genetic disease by the OFA, or had abnormal results."

The OFA's Breeders Guide provides suggestions for developing a sound strategy for managing a breeding program focused of minimizing heritable diseases/health conditions which can impact the length and quality of dog's lives.

Affiliations: The Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). CHIC, working with participating AKC parent clubs, provides a resource for breeders and owners of purebred dogs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in specific breeds.

Harmonization of Genetic Testing for Dogs (HGTD) Database

The goal of the HGTD is to improve standardization of, and access to, robust genetic testing to support health improvements and a sustainable future for healthy dogs. It is a portal for information on Genetic Testing Providers (labs); genetic tests, and tests by breed. There are two major components: the Quality Testing Database and Genetic Counselling resources. Information pertaining to genetic testing including genetic terms, FAQ's, accreditation, guidelines, standards and more is available HERE.
